HDTV

So I watched my first weekend of NFL Football in HD. I pulled the HD signal off the air with an amplified antenna. The games were shown by ABC and CBS this weekend.

CBS’s broadcast had the center channel screwed up with a little high end static that wasn’t audible in the cable or analog broadcast signal (and isn’t in my system as subsequent DVD playing showed).

ABC’s broadcast didn’t have a discrete Dolby Digital 5.1 signal at all. The other thing I noticed was that some of their graphics they showed next to the broadcasters in the pre-game and half time looked very low resolution.

I hope they get things right by the time everyone is forced in to digital television.

On the other hand West Wing looked and sounded amazing tonight. Let’s hope it’s a sign of the future.
